History of Madison Boats:
Expanding Access and Building Community
Madison Boats focuses on helping people out on Madison’s Lakes. With three locations, Wingra Boats, Brittingham Boats, and Marshall Boats we have over 400 boats for rent. We rent canoes, kayaks, stand up paddle boards or SUPs, paddle boats, row boats, and pontoon boats. We offer kids' day camps, memberships, a marina for non-motorized watercraft, host private parties small and big, and host events from full moon paddles to Jazz Fest to ice cream boat floats. If it is related to Madison’s Lakes, summer fun, or people connecting - we are all about it. In fact, our mission is, “to connect people to each other and to our lakes” and we have been doing it for a long time!
Since 1952 Wingra Boats has helped people enjoy the spring-fed, natural Beauty of Lake Wingra. Madison Boats Owner, Tyler Leeper, started working at Wingra Boats at the age of 14. Inspired by the Wingra Boats community he has worked to expand this community and access to all of Madison. Over the years Wingra Boats grew and expanded to our downtown Madison location, Brittingham Boats. Brittingham Park was the jewel of the Parks in the 1900s. After a period of decline, new life was breathed into the old beach house when we opened in 2013. Brittingham has come alive as the downtown destination for all summer fun. We expanded again in 2017 adding Marshall Boats on Madison’s far West Side. This prime location offers protected paddling along Lake Mendota's west shore bluffs and transformative escapes into Pheasant Branch conservancy. Marshall Boats rents pontoon boats to help the whole family explore and enjoy the lake.
The community focus extends to the Madison Boats Crew of nearly 80 staff. Many of our Camp Kids become staff, and many staff recruit siblings (and parents) -Tyler has enlisted his sister, brother, mom, and dad - to help manage and grow Madison boats over the years. Brittingham manager Stephan Reinke's son works with him and his sister has been assistant manager. We take pride in our team as they are the ones that help you have that incredible experience and make going to work enjoyable every day.
We hope that you will join this incredible community, and spend some (or lots) of time with us this summer. We hope that you will share stories, ideas, and your passion as we strive to provide opportunities and reasons to escape and reconnect.
Thank you for caring and we hope to see you on the Lake!
